Honesty: Telemarketers' Nightmare
62Honest Answers
Telemarketers have scripts. I know, I was one for 1 day. That's all it took for me to find out, that was not a job for me!! The scripts tell the telemarketer what to say and then lists the common possible replies from the "target". With each possible reply, it contains suggested responses the telemarketer is to use.
Most telemarketers are so involved in making the sale or following the script that in their minds they have already prepared themselves for your answers. With this knowledge, I like to have fun with them.
"Hello Miss, I am so and so with ABC Company. How are you today?"
"Oh, well, I'm kind of constipated and my stomach is cramping really bad."
This throws them off pretty good. They try to recover and get back control of the conversation, but you are in control now. Take the lead and reverse the fast talk. Most telemarketers will hang up after about 2 sentences of chit-chat. It is not profitable to them. They have a set number of sales to make each day and if you are not showing any signs of biting, they will hang-up

Great hub...
Awesome hub. I used to work as a telemarkter too. Thanks for doing the hub so quickly.
That's hilarious. I have a friend who tells them "Kinda horny. How are you?" That always gets them to hang up. Nice job.
Well I am grateful for the replies. I knew I'd get at least one answer. Thanks so much again.
This is what I do, i act friendly and receptive and when they get down to the real nitty gritty i quietly sit the phone down and do whatever i was doing when they called, i smile to my self as i hear the voice of the telemarketer quietly trailing off excitely making their well rehearsed sales pitch. Then i come back in a few minutes and enjoy the dialtone or that three syllable sound followed by ; if you'd like to make a call please hang up and try again...............................
Some statements to put off telemarketers aka tele-sales - difficult for honest people but cross your fingers while you're saying them:
"Mommy isn't here" (spoken in a childlike voice)
"this is rented accomodation" - great for glazing salespeople
in the UK you can just tell them you are "registered with TPS" (telephone preference service) that'll make 'em scarper.
I worked for years in B2B advertising sales - the trick in doing well with that was finding people/companies which would benefit from buying the advertising I was selling - Google ruined that (way to go google!) by being cheaper and more effective than any other advertising offered ever in the world before - hence why I started developing websites and writing articles.
Well, hello Wilma! Nice to see you here on Hubpages.
I have not tried disguising my voice, but I have replied that "I'm" not available.
Thanks for the comment!!

Very good comeback you have there. I think I might ask them for their home phone number so I could get back with them later.
